Newsletter Term 3 Week 1 2023
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's message
Welcome back to Term 3! Lovely to see all the happy smiling faces yesterday in the playground and in classrooms. We are off to a flying start with Stage One attending Glen Street Theatre today and our Athletics Carnival on tomorrow.
With the upgrades to Sydney Academy of Sports there has been limited availability this year for this facility. We are hopeful that we will be back at Narrabeen in 2024. This year the canteen is offering a small range of lunch orders for the day. Please look on Flexischools for sushi and sandwich options. Lunch Order drop off will be at 12:00pm. A small range of snacks will be available to purchase from 12-1pm at the field so students can bring some gold coins to purchase.
Please remind your child to bring a hat and sunscreen as well as plenty of water and food for the day.
Congratulations
Fantastic to share the learning opportunity that our students had at Forest High in Term 2. A great showcase of learning and connecting with students and teachers from across our network. Well done Julian, Bronte, Evelyn, Archer, Cameron.
The wonderful artworks created by Mae, Nieve and Hannah at the Arts Alive workshops will be on display in the school office over the next few weeks. This incredible opportunity brought together students from all over the Northern Beaches to create and explore a variety of different mediums to create and explore the creative art processes.
Congratulations to Beth Saunders and Ruth Skeeles who have both been successful at interview and have now been permanently appointed as part of our School Administration team. We are very fortunate at Balgowlah North to have such a high calibre of skills in our administration team. All of our admin staff have worked in the corporate world in project management, information technologies and finance. They bring the ability to problem solve, along with adaptability and initiative. All important in a busy school setting.
It is wonderful to have our talented General Assistant Ashley Gualter also successful at interview and fill our permanent General Assistant position which he will share with George Vella. Ashley brings a diverse skill set and has been a strong addition to our school. His passion for the environment is clear to see with the way our gardens and outdoor spaces have evolved over the past two years.
Celebrating 175 years of Public Education
During week 3 we celebrate our wonderful Public Education. There will be opportunities for parents, grandparents and carers to share the morning with their children. These days are a wonderful, giving our students the chance to show you their school, celebrate their learning and join in for morning tea. The bands will be playing from 8.00am on the deck, the library will be open for purchasing books and we will have a showcase of The Arts as well as open classrooms. Please see the Education Week flyer with specific times so that you are able to organise your schedules. We look forward to sharing the day with you all.
Birthday Treats
At BNPS, we recognize and appreciate the importance of celebrating a student's birthday. Parents have been supporting their children in observing their special day by providing treats to share with their classmates. In order to make it more convenient at school, we suggest considering icy poles as a delightful alternative to traditional sweets. A Birthday Bucket of Quelch Sticks can be easily arranged through the school canteen also.If you would rather your child does not receive treats when they are brought into class, please contact your child's teacher to let them know.

Kindergarten will be celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten on Wednesday 26th July (Week 2). On this day, we invite Kindergarten students to come to school dressed as if they were 100 years old. We encourage students to rummage through cupboards. We do not expect families to be purchasing additional items. We look forward to celebrating this exciting milestone with a morning full of games and party fun. We can’t wait!

Arts Alive by Hannah M 6S
Arts Alive, a place full of creativity! Many children from different schools sit in a room and are welcomed to the program. We are sent to an activity in groups there’s drawing, painting, sculpting and printmaking. I went to drawing and first we learned some techniques and learned how to blend different mediums with different tools, some are as simple as a paper towel. After drawing a sphere to help us learn about shading and making things look 3D, we drew a denim jacket. There were many denim jackets in front of us and we chose one to draw, we did lots of shading and added a hint of blue to them. We started drawing a shoe that was in front of us and then went to recess. After having lunch, we started drawing some clothes on a clothesline and we had to make our art piece join to the person next to us. After that the first day was complete.
On the second day I had printmaking. Everyone picked out colourful pieces of paper and drew houses on a blank piece of paper and painted gold stripes on another piece of paper.
After recess we glued colourful paper on blank paper, we also scratched our hoses into a thick piece of foam. We got three more colourful pieces of paper and got the same colour to glue onto the other pieces of paper to link them together. Then we printed shapes and our houses on all the pieces of paper. We glued all the small ones together on a big black piece of paper and gave the big ones a backing. After the program finished, we got to show our parents all our artworks. I’m so happy I got to go to this program and have two full days creative fun doing something I love.
