Newsletter Term 2 week 2 2024
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."

Twilight professional learning workshops
Learning Goals
On Tuesday afternoon our teachers collaborated, evaluated and unpacked our new syllabus documents in English and Maths to design learning goals for all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6. This important work guides us in our thinking around assessment, and next steps in learning for our students.
Professional learning is a continuous process, providing time to collaborate, and discussing our work provides opportunities for clarity of deep thinking and consistency of practice across our school.
Next week on the 14th of May we will be working with Professor Andrew Martin for a twilight professional learning session. Following this he will present to our parent body research and practical tips around motivation, engagement and learning achievement.
If you would be interested in attending his presentation can you please click on the link below to register your interest.
Mothers Day Breakfast
Fingers crossed for a clear morning tomorrow without any rain! Our SRC students will bring down the breakfast baskets to outside the kindergarten rooms from 8.00am in the morning. If the weather is wet the bands will perform in the hall and the hall will be open for mingling. If the weather is clear the bands will perform on the deck as per usual.
We look forward to catching up with you all tomorrow. I wish you all a lovely weekend celebrating our wonderful mums.

Student Voice
As a school we are currently reviewing our policies across a wide range of areas and looking towards our future directions as we explore them. One area is that of Student Leaders (as a part of our leadership and Student Voice restructure).
Currently when participating in our Student Leader voting (for the Year 6 leaders), students are only given the option to vote for one boy and one girl. The current proposal being presented is to shift this to being the two best students based on merit, without gender being a factor.
As this is a discussion for our school community, we are interested in the thoughts and input of our families. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the survey and if you feel strongly either way, please ensure you leave a comment.

Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction - Term 2
Welcome Back! Term 2 began with some engaging professional development in both Literacy and Numeracy with a strong focus around how we drive continuous improvement through explicit teaching and assessment.
The APC&I role will continue to support 3-6 students weekly, in partnership with their classroom teachers, in the Mathematics space. Teachers are effectively developing and adapting new curriculum materials, supporting differentiated structures and creating assessment tools aligned with the new Mathematics syllabus.
There will be a strong focus on continuing differentiated grouping structures with embedded assessment and using this ongoing assessment to further support the teaching and learning cycle, driving future planning to improve student outcomes in Mathematics.
It will be another very busy and productive term and I really look forward to continuing to work alongside the stage 2 and 3 teachers and engage with their wonderful students.

Cross Country
Our school Cross Country carnival will take place on Tuesday 14th May from 12:30pm. Let's hope for some dry weather! Please note the schedule below is a guide only. We would love for parents to attend and cheer on the students.
Please note that students in Years 2-6 will run on the footpath around the school - if you are coming to watch please refrain from parking along these streets whilst the races are being run. A great place to help out is along Gloucester Road - we normally have parent spectators lining the driveways in this street - it’s always much appreciated.
K-1 will run around the Oval.
Students who are turning 8 in 2024 have the choice to run 1km around the school or 2km around the school. The 2km race will be combined with 9 year olds and the top 6 runners from this combined age group will move on to the zone competition.
Students are permitted to wear a house-coloured T-shirt but it is not compulsory. Please make sure any shirt is appropriately sun safe. House colours are illustrated below.
PSSA socks
New navy PSSA Football socks are now a requirement for all PSSA soccer teams. These will be on sale from outside the office from the school sport captains from 8.45am on Tuesday Week 3 for $5 cash only! If you are unable to purchase socks before school, they can be purchased from the second hand uniform shop on Wednesday at 2.45pm.
Kind regards

Teacher Picks!
Miss Ross’ favourite picture book is:
‘Edward the Emu ‘ by Sheena Knowles
Tired of his life as an emu, Edward decides to try being something else for a change. He tries swimming with the seals, he spends a day lounging with the lions, and even slithers with the snakes. But Edward soon discovers that being an emu may be the best thing after all.
“This book is my favourite because at the end of the story, the main character Edward, realises that it is so important to always be yourself.” - Miss Ross
