Newsletter Term 2 week 9 2024
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards), Australian students with disability must be able to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
Our school will once again be participating in the National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) in August. The NCCD collects data about school students with disabilities who are receiving adjustments across Australia in a consistent, reliable and systematic way. It enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disabilities and how they can be best supported at school. This allows us as a school to record the adjustments already undertaken in classes to support students with disabilities to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. See the attached information regarding the purpose of NCCD.
Please feel free to contact Mrs Rachel Ridley (Assistant Principal/Learning and Wellbeing Team Coordinator) or Mrs Anna Harris (Learning and Support Teacher) through the school email address for more information or any questions you may have.
Curiosity and Outdoor Learning
Kindergarten students enthusiastically explored the varieties of colour shades found in the environment by taking part in a colour scavenger hunt last week. Enquiry questions included:
Which colours in the environment are most predominant? Why?
Does this vary in different locations? Why?
What is a colour ‘shade’?

Stage 1 History Immersion Afternoon
Year 1 and 2 have been learning all about games, past and present, in their history unit this term. They have been comparing the experiences of entertainment over the course of time and describing the effects of changing technology on people’s lives. We decided to celebrate by having an immersion afternoon where there were lots of old-fashioned games, both of European and traditional origin. The students enjoyed activities such as Kolap, hula hoops, quoits, tug of war, sack races, ‘what’s the time Mr Wolf?’ and egg and spoon races. It was fantastic to see the students so engaged with participating in the games of the past!
Stage One teachers.
Colour Day
On the 2nd of July week 10 our school will be holding a ‘colour day’. This means each year group will come to school dressed in a certain colour. We are raising money for a charity called ‘Eat Up’.
Eat Up helps give children, less fortunate, a sandwich for lunch if they have none. Year 6 will be participating in making those sandwiches that will be packed and off to other schools. Wear as much of your colour as you can! Please bring a gold coin donation.

Library News
Congratulations to:-
Addilyn A, Harley A, Lula H, Aven L, Ellie S, Lottie S, Charlotte O, Eddie S, Lachlan T, Meg A and Josh N who have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2024.
The wonderful world of music for children is a magical place where sounds and rhythms come alive, sparking joy and creativity. From the playful beats of a drum to the soothing notes of a lullaby, music can transport kids to different worlds and help them express their emotions. It enhances their cognitive development, improves memory, and boosts language skills while providing a fun and engaging way to learn. Whether they're dancing, singing, or playing an instrument, music encourages children to explore their talents, connect with others, and find their own unique voice.
Teacher Picks!
Mrs Parkinson’s favourite picture book is:
‘The Hairy Maclary’ books by Lynley Dodd
Hairy Maclary is off for a walk, and he's joined by furry friends of all shapes and sizes, from Bottomley Potts (covered in spots) to Schnitzel von Krumm (with a very low tum). But when they suddenly find themselves face-to-face with Scarface Claw - the toughest Tom in town - it's time to run all the way back home!
“I liked how the animal names were exactly how the characters looked. For example, Hairy Maclary was definitely hairy and Bitzer Maloney was skinny and bony.”- Mrs Parkinson

Strings are the Thing
Congratulations to our String Ensemble who performed at Assembly on Monday. They played beautifully and it was the first time they played a piece without a backing track which requires great listening to each other, concentration on counting plus note reading which is a skill they have been working on this year. They have progressed will and we look forward to hearing more performances in future.
Disco – Coloured our World
Thank you and congratulations to the parents who coordinated and helped at the school disco last week. The children had a fantastic time (parents did too!). The funds raised are much appreciated by the band program to ensure we continue to provide and excellent service to BNPS families.
