Newsletter Term 3 week 1 2024
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's Message
Welcome back to Term 3, what a wonderful start to the term. Congratulations to Jamison S and Harrison E who competed at the NSW State Cross Country Championships on Monday. Jamison came 1st in the 12/13 boys multiclass and Harrison finished 9th individually in U11 boy helping the team to win a SILVER MEDAL for their age group. Good luck to Jamison who is competing at the National Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast over the next three days.
Engaged Learning
What a wonderful opportunity our students across the school had to engage with the learning of our Stage 3 student projects at the end of Term 2. The ownership, self-belief and value our Stage 3 students modelled for our younger students was testimony to their positive motivation and engagement over the term in their projects.
The learning that our older students gain through managing their time, solving problems and engaging thoughtfully in the learning process provides them with the skills needed to continue to learn and grow throughout their lives. Thank you to our parents for supporting our students with these important skills.
Public Education Week – Proud to Belong
We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Visual Arts Showcase ‘Proud to Belong’, as part of Public Education Week Celebrations, promoting creativity, skill development and a sense of community. This is where our talented young artists will have the opportunity to proudly display their creative masterpieces! From vibrant paintings to imaginative sculptures and more, this event promises to be a celebration of creativity and imagination.
Visual Arts is an important aspect of the K-6 Creative Arts curriculum and gives students opportunities to explore, observe and create visual artworks whilst exploring various elements and processes to communicate ideas.
Join us as we admire the artistic achievements of our students and encourage their passion for the arts. It's a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and appreciate the talents of our budding Picassos and Van Goghs!
Date: Week 3 - Thursday August 8th 2024
Showcase Viewing Times: 8:15 - 9:00am & 3:00pm - 3:45pm
Location: BNPS School Hall
Parents are also invited to join their child(ren) in their classrooms from 9:00 – 9:45am to engage in a fun visual arts activity, followed by an early recess break.

Assistant Principal's News
This week our teachers have had the incredible honour of working with Pam Harris, a true powerhouse of education. Pam is an internationally recognised teaching specialist, whose research into numerical reasoning is at the forefront of current pedagogy in mathematics.
Starting on the Staff Development Day on Monday the 22nd of July, our team of teachers connected with our colleagues from five other schools from the Beaches Network to learn about Pam’s research, methodologies and instructional routines.
On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to host Pam at our school, where she ran teaching workshops that our teachers were able to observe to see pedagogy in action with our very own Balgowlah North Students.
The focus of our work with Pam was to learn more about mathematical teaching tools that allow students to recognise patterns and construct mathematical relationships. Learning experiences are designed to develop reasoning that increases in complexity and interconnectivity as students progress through schooling.
Our teachers were brimming with inspiration after watching Pam in action and we look forward to contextualising this within our own teaching programs as we continue to build mathematicians in our classrooms.

Shark Tank
In a dynamic classroom inspired by the "Shark Tank" concept, Stage 3 students transformed into budding entrepreneurs, passionately brainstorming innovative product ideas. Each group crafted a unique invention, from eco-friendly gadgets to tech-savvy learning tools, and presented their creations to a panel of "investors" With polished pitches and persuasive arguments, the students showcased not only their creativity but also their understanding of market needs and business strategies. This engaging exercise fostered a spirit of innovation and collaboration, preparing the young inventors for future entrepreneurial endeavors.

Wakakirri
We are proud to now have a Wakakirri community and are looking forward to having parents involved with us this term.
Starting today we are having 'Waka Working Bees' for parents of students involved on Wednesdays only during Term 3. They will be helping us with painting sets, making props, costume organisation, lighting and projection tasks, carpentry skills, simple sewing tasks and transportation of sets and props. We are getting so excited about performing on Thursday 22nd August and can’t wait to share it with the school during Week 4 before the big show!
All performers are required to bring their labelled costumes and props for next week's full dress rehearsal on Wednesday 31 July at 3:15pm. As this is the same day as the Athletics Carnival, performers can drop their items off to the costume room in the music room earlier in the week in a clearly labelled bag.
We look forward to sharing more photos with you on our journey this term!
