Principal's report
Music
Great to see the excitement building for the Band Workshop on the 5th of June and the Strings on the 20th of June. These are important opportunities for all our students to have access to high quality tutors and work together intensively on improving their musical skills. All students are expected to attend. I am looking forward to hearing the concerts at the end of the day!
We also welcome Seaforth and Balgowlah Heights to our school for the first Harbourside Music Festival on the 17th of June. Thank you to Caroline Fechner who has been working hard with the P&C and the school to provide many musical opportunities for our students at Balgowlah North.
Toilets
Just a reminder that adults should not be going into our student toilets at any point of the school day. If you are onsite and need to access a toilet please come to the office and we will assist. As you are all aware this is for the safety and wellbeing of all our students.
P&C meeting
The date for the next P&C meeting has been changed from Wednesday the 9th of June to Thursday the 10th of June. More information will be sent out via the P&C.
Congratulations!
I have just heard that our students put in a super effort at the Zone Cross Country. We came second overall in our zone just behind Manly West. What an incredible result for Balgowlah North!

ICAS
Balgowlah North Public School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments this year. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in a range of learning areas.
These examinations incur an entry fee and ARE NOT affiliated with the Department of Education. Students who participate will be competing against students in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Africa, Pacific Countries and America. This is an opportunity for students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.
We encourage you to consider entering your child into ICAS this year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically.
Our school has signed up for the ICAS Assessments Parent Payment System (PPS) for Writing, English, Maths and Science. Through this system parents can pay for ICAS directly online while tests will still be held at our school. Please use the following details to register your child no later than Friday 11th June.

Year 3 and Year 4 Excursion
Stage 2 students started the week lying in hammocks, exploring secret doors and uncovering hidden treasures under floorboards. We had a very full day visiting both the State Library of NSW and Sydney Living Museums. Students were able to take a trip back in time examining primary evidence and artefacts to support our history unit, First Contacts. It was lovely to hear Balgowlah North students commended on their respectful behaviour and beautiful manners by State Library staff.
“The hammocks were hard to get in to and after a while your legs started hurting.” Jack O
“I loved looking at the old artworks in huge golden frames.” Louisa O
“I wore a frilled collar, blue jacket and white pants when I was acting out being a free settler’s son.” Aven L
It would be impossible to get the heavy iron shackles off. A blacksmith moulded the metal pin into the clasps.” Kahlia M

NSW State hockey carnival
We were selected to represent the Sydney North regional team in the NSW State hockey carnival, it was held in Unanderra, Illawarra hockey centre. We played well as a team in the preliminary rounds and only had one goal scored against us. We won the semi-finals two nil which got us to the grand final. It was the first time in 50 years that the girls Sydney North team had made it. We finished with a draw, so we became joint winners, with the North Coast hockey team. We had an amazing time and the experience of such high level hockey made us think and aspire to do it again in the future.
