Newsletter Term 2 Week 9 2021
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's report
What a lovely opportunity I had yesterday visiting Narrabeen Sport and Recreation centre to see our student leaders engaging with their peers from all over the Northern Beaches. It was great to see them networking, building connections through leadership games and initiatives as well as having fun through orienteering and archery! I look forward to hearing about their leadership action research project when they return to school.
Staffing changes for Term 3. We are fortunate to have Ms Sarah King returning from maternity leave in Term 3. She will be sharing the teaching of KB with Mrs Sarah Bee. We will also wish Mrs Bee well at the end of Term 3 when she leaves for her maternity leave! Mrs Jenny Mercer will be taking Term 3 as sick leave and we will welcome Mr Nathan Pakes to our school. Much planning has gone into the staff changeover so that our teaching and learning programs and student wellbeing is maintained at all times. Thank you to Mrs Mercer for offering to have her parent teacher interviews next week before she goes on leave.
As the term draws to a close I’d like to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and professionalism that the teachers of Balgowlah North bring to their work everyday. Students are our core business. Educating our future generation is important work. They bring humour, compassion and care to their work for every student, every day.
Reports will be sent home electronically next week. If you have not met with your class teacher this term please book an appointment to touch base in week 2 next term. Just a reminder that students return to school on Tuesday July 13.

School news
On Thursday 17 June, Miss Eliza Ross will accompany our Senior Dance Ensemble to Glen St Theatre, where they will be filmed for the Sydney North Public Schools Cinematic Dance Festival. Miss Ross has worked alongside the wonderful Miss Steph Rooleht and Mrs Eliza McAllister to choreograph, rehearse and prepare an amazing dance item our students are now able to perform. We are so proud of our talented dancers and hope they have a wonderful time representing our school on Thursday.

Enrichment writing workshop
Last Thursday our school hosted the first NBLA Enrichment Writing Workshop. Students, who were selected for their motivation and success in writing, came from schools across the network and were given the opportunity to engage with professional writers, publishers and specialist teachers to develop their skills and connect with similarly capable students. It was an absolute pleasure to see the students so engaged and motivated during each session and excited to work with peers from other schools. They showcased some incredible writing.
I would especially like to thank Forest High School for the incredible workshop they led with the students. The Year 12 students were engaging and instantly connected with our students. They are a credit to their school. We are looking forward to organising this opportunity again.

Operation Art 2021
Every year, schools across New South Wales are invited to participate in Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education. The Operation Art program provides a forum for schools and students to demonstrate their visual arts achievements through exhibitions at the Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. This year, four successful students have had artwork selected to partake in Operation Art 2021 from Balgowlah North Public School.
We would like to congratulate:

Community news
Northern Beaches Council has developed a schools road safety and active travel project to identify issues and concerns around schools and to encourage more active and safe journeys to schools.
Balgowlah North Public School has been selected as one of the schools we are reviewing this year.
As well as our review we are providing a self-reporting method for the school community to give us feedback using an interactive map.
We invite Balgowlah North Public school parents, students and the wider school community to participate in the self-reporting method using Social Pinpoint. This is an opportunity to tell us exactly where concerns and issues are for parking, speeding, walking, bike/skate/scooting, pedestrian safety and general issues, related to your school.
How you can help
- Please share the link in your school newsletter and any school managed social media pages that parents access
- The map allows people to indicate issues in specific places, and to categorise them with an image – the more comments for Balgowlah North Public School the better!
The link is https://northernbeaches.mysocialpinpoint.com/northern-beaches-safe-schools#/
Note that some people may have already posted comments last year. These comments are still captured and will be included in our review.
We would appreciate feedback by Monday 5 July 2021.
