Newsletter Term 3 Week 9 2021
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's report
Thank you once again to our school community for your continued support this term. As a school community we have worked together to navigate this time positively, with compassion, with flexibility and keeping our student learning and wellbeing as our focus. This time of the term is often when our students start to feel weary, if you find this is the case at home just focus on what they can do. Our focus is as always on quality not quantity.
It was lovely to hear how our students engaged with Wellbeing Wednesday. Today our focus is on Science activities with lots of experiments and problem solving activities. It would be great to showcase photos of these activities in our newsletter next week. I am very proud of the work our students have been producing whilst working from home. I hope you have all enjoyed reading their work through our newsletter as well.
Mrs Ridley, Mrs Horsley and I were amazed at the standard of all our writing entries for Book Week. We have been very busy reading all the entries and I am very proud of the commitment of our students to take up the opportunity to take part in this.
Staff changes
We wish Mrs Sarah Bee all the best as she completes her last week at Balgowlah North next week. Sarah will be taking maternity leave and we wish her well at this very special time. We also say good bye to Mr Nathan Pakes who has been replacing Mrs Jenny Mercer this term. Mr Pakes has had to step straight into a ‘Home Learning’ space and he has navigated this with adaptability and flexibility. We wish him all the best.
We would like to congratulate Mrs Belinda Norrie who has been successful in a career opportunity at the Narrabeen Community of Schools in a Deputy Principal role for 2022 commencing next term. Subsequently Mrs Rachel Ridley will continue in the Deputy Principal role until the end of Term 4 2021. Mr Lachlan Stewart will continue to teach 6RZ with Mr Michael Zeppell and Mrs Susie Stock will continue to supervise Stage 3.
Students not returning for 2022
Planning is underway for 2022. If your child will not be returning in 2022 could you please complete the google link below. This information is very important because it has an impact on our class structures and staffing of the school.
Kindergarten enrolments for 2022
We currently have 62 students enrolled for kindergarten next year. If you know of any families that have not enrolled yet it would be greatly appreciated if you could do this. We are currently reviewing our orientations for next term as part of our planning for students returning to school.
School Grounds
I would like to thank the parents and students who have been supporting the school during this difficult time. As everyone is aware Koolkuna has access to our school grounds as a first priority after school and in the holidays to run their vacation care programs.
With the changes from Monday 13th September to outdoor gathering of up to 5 people for recreation the school grounds will be open. Please remember that students must be accompanied by an adult. If any parents see any inappropriate behaviour occurring at this time it would be appreciated if it could be reported to school security or the police.
Take care everyone,
Brooke Keevers
Principal
