‘We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn.’

Office hours
Just a reminder that the school office hours are 8.30am until 3.15pm.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Sarah King on the safe arrival of Elsie Alexandra.
Genius Hour
It was lovely to have the opportunity to spend Friday afternoon with Year 5 students as they presented their projects they have been working on this term. I was impressed by the enthusiasm, depth of knowledge and commitment that the students displayed in regards to their project inquiry work.
Building projects
We will have quite a few tradesmen around in the holidays completing paving projects, painting the office and completing drainage and laying turf around Kolkunna. Please remember that if your children come and play on the school grounds on the weekend or in the holidays they must be accompanied by an adult. It would be appreciated if everyone stays either on the oval or the courts as these will be the safest places to play. If we can all continue to work together to report any misuse of school facilitates that would be greatly appreciated.
The Farmhouse Preschool have let us know they have installed bollards outside of the preschool this week.
I hope everyone takes time to relax, reconnect and recharge over the school holidays. Stay safe, we look forward to everyone’s return on Monday the 12th of October.

Deputy Principal's report
Term 4
We look forward to welcoming all student back to school on Monday, 12 October. I wish all our students and families a safe term break.
Year 3 Check In Assessment
This week our Year 3 students have been completing an online 'check in' assessment in reading and numeracy. This is supplied by the NSW Department of Education and we look forward to using these results, along with our day to day assessment data, to make informed decisions about student learning. These are not NAPLAN tests and a parent report isn't produced. Thank you to the Year 3 teachers who have coordinated and administered these assessments.
Teacher Professional Learning
Yesterday our teachers gathered under the COLA to share and celebrate their teaching sprint success for this term in a 'Teach Meet' style of meeting. It was a true celebration that centred on celebrating student learning growth, exemplary teaching practice and rich discussion and sharing of and about the impact of evidence-informed teaching practices that are improving student learning outcomes in mathematics. COVID has limited the way we meet and learn collaboratively, and zoom fatigue is beginning to set in for all so it was wonderful to gather and share outside whilst maintaining physical distancing.
Bear Pit
Mrs Keevers and I had the very difficult task of adjudicating the Stage 3 Bear Pit Speeches for 2020. Congratulations to Sam Pickard from Year 5 who went on to win the competition. Mr James Griffin will be attending our school for an assembly next term to present all winners with their certificate. Unfortunately, the inter-school competition at NSW Parliament House was unable to proceed for 2020.

Library news
Curious Creatures, Wild Minds
This year we will be celebrating book week with our annual book character dress-up day on Wednesday October 21. Students are invited to come to school dressed up as their favourite book character which reflects this year’s theme Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. This will be an opportunity to celebrate wonderful book characters and share favourite book experiences. I look forward to seeing all the diverse and creative ideas on the day!
If students are needing something to read over the school holidays please make use of our EBook and Audio Book library. This collection is being updated regularly with great titles. You can access the collection through the EPlatform by Wheelers app.
