Newsletter Term 1 Week 8 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's report
Congratulations!
What a wonderful achievement! Balgowlah North have been announced as 2022 Zone Swimming Champion School. What an incredible achievement for a small school with a BIG heart! We topped the leaderboard with 897 points 67 points ahead of the next school.
We wish our district well as they compete today at regionals. Ms Mc Indoe and Mrs Kerry Kelly will be managing the Zone team.
Harmony Week
Over the week of the 21st of March until Friday the 25th of March we will be celebrating our diversity. We start with a performance from Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo performance and education troupe. Led by Aboriginal elder, teacher and artist, Walangari Karntawarra (B.A., B. Ed.) and the members of Diramu.
Beginning the week with a celebration of our beginnings, followed by on Wednesday an acknowledgement of our cultural diversity with a cultural celebration - Multicultural Day.
What is Harmony Day?
- Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity.
- It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
- This year’s theme is ‘Everyone Belongs’.
- By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds belong to Australia and enrich it.
Why Orange?
Orange is the official colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. It signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. The colour orange also relates to freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
On Monday the 21st of March our students are encouraged to wear a splash of orange to school.
Multicultural Day
Multicultural Day is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the diverse cultures found in our greater community. Focus will be on inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Students will be participating in a variety of activities across their stage. They have an opportunity to dress in the colours of their own cultural background or the country they have or will be exploring on the day.
There is an opportunity to order a special lunch on the day! Check out the menu on flexi schools.
We are all looking forward to celebrating Harmony Week!
Kind regards,
Brooke Keevers

Buddies
On Friday, the year 6’s met our kindergarten buddies. Each year 6 receives a kindergarten student or two to look after for the year. Every Thursday we go down and eat lunch with them from 12:40 to 12:50. The year 6’s read to their kindy buddy and will take part in lots of activities with them over the year.
Some girls have two little buddies to look after, and that is because there are more kindies than year 6’s. The year 6’s are very excited to have one or two kindergarten buddies and will look after them very well. We think that this is a great opportunity to spend some time with the little kids and help and encourage them along the way.
On Wednesday week 8 and 10, we will go down during class time and visit our buddies. We will help them learn and have some fun. Activities like art, sport games and reading will be done with them. We love this program with the kindergartens, and we hope they enjoy it too!

Small, smart and sweet it was so fun playing and caring for them we would read books together then go play outside. We help them through their problems and make new friends. It is good for us to take responsibility and look after them. They were so happy to see us and it was a good experience. They help us through our problems as well and we learn from each other.

At 1:40 on Friday we went back to our classrooms to have our names and buddies' names read out. We walked anxiously into the classroom of our buddies and got introduced to them. We read a book and took a couple photos with them and chatted about what was happening in the books for 10 minutes. We walked outside, there was some sports equipment and we started playing with our buddies. There were games like duck duck goose, tip, hide and seek, hula hoops, monkey bars and much more! There were lots of giggles and laughter. We then had to say a dreaded goodbye to their cute little faces. We look forward to doing some fun activities and crafts with our buddies this year.

Friday was one of the most exciting days of the year. Buddies! We were getting quite annoyed when it kept getting pushed to a different time, and most of us thought it was going to be another delay , but no. We actually got them! Excitement everywhere, chaos. Everyone was so happy and we were having a blast. First we read them a story, then we ran around playing survival tag and tip. Then the bell rang and it was quite sad to see them go. We got our bags and happily walked home knowing that we would see them again soon, but were still sad we had to leave them at all.

World’s Greatest Shave
BNPS have registered to take part in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave on Thursday 28th April to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Year 6 pupils will shave, cut or colour their hair and K-5 will participate in Crazy Hair Day.
Every single day, over 50 Australian families will receive a devastating blood cancer diagnosis. The money we raise will provide these families with the special care and support that they need. We will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively, and ultimately find a cure.
Use this link to sponsor a Year 6 student and/or donate to the BNPS team for crazy hair day. You can also donate cash on the day at school.
