Newsletter Term 1 Week 11 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's report
Thank you
Thank you to our students, staff and parents for working hard this term both at school and at home. It has truly been a term of resilience, tenacity and flexibility. Our students have continued to go from strength to strength with their learning. When we work together we ensure continuity of learning at all times.
What a fabulous opportunity to hear our senior band play and celebrate all our wonderful students who have received certificates, banners and medals at our celebration assembly on Monday.
State championship swimming
We are very proud of our wonderful young swimmers, who performed extremely well at the State championship. Many congratulations to Chloe G who came first in the 13 girls freestyle, setting a new State record and will go on to the National championship. Please see all the results in the sports section.
Fundraising
Yesterday BNPS SRC raised money for flood relief and both students and teachers dressed in mufti. We raised $635, money that will go to support families in Northern NSW.
Thank you also to our P&C for a successful Parent’s Night Out. The school community raised $9,700. I’d like to thank our Platinum sponsor Belle Property for their support of the night. The P&C have voted to ratify the support of the school with an upgrade to our hall technology and performance space. We look forward to this upgrade in Term 2.
We hope you all have a relaxing break connecting with family and friends.

Instructional Leadership Update
It has been an absolute joy to work with our Stage Two classes on developing their ability to think multiplicatively this term. Our focus has been on providing students with rich problem solving activities that allow them to develop their skills in fluently manipulating multiplicative situations and communicating their reasoning.Students have been asked to be flexible and creative in their approach to solving problems and it has been incredible to see our budding mathematicians relishing the opportunity to challenge themselves as they deepen their multiplicative skills.

Library News
Recently I was made aware of a fantastic opportunity for our keen writers. Publishers Studio is an online platform for children aged 10 years and older which encourages them to write more and have their work published for others to read. Writers are encouraged to submit a piece of writing each month helping to develop confidence and writing skills. More information is available on their website.
Online Platforms
Please make use of our online platforms over the holidays. Storybox library has a huge collection of fantastic read alouds for all our students including some great ANZAC Day texts which can be used to help understand the significance of this day. My favourite for K-2 students is Anzac Biscuits by Phil Cummings. Our school username is: booksbnps and password: books. Our EBook and Audio book Platforms are a great option in the holidays as well. If you have not done so already, download the EBook by Wheelers app and select our school.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
I am very pleased to announce the first group of students to finish the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year! Well done to: Lucas J (K), Harvey Mc (K), Lucy A (Year 2), Thomas B (Year 2), Benny Mc (Year 3), Jackson A (Year 4), Ben B (Year 4), Lila B (Year 5), Erin R (Year 6). Keep up the great reading!
Stage 3 Bushfire Project
This week our Stage 3 students presented some outstanding projects based on this term’s geography learning. The students have been exploring the topic of bushfires in Australia. The final project was a collaborative task to research and build a model of a bushfire resistant house and create a google slide presentation explaining their choices. Have a look at a couple of excellent examples below.

Cross Country
Time to get running! The school Cross Country carnival for students in Years 2-6 will take place on Tuesday 3rd May. Let’s hope the weather improves and the oval has a chance over the holidays to dry out. A spare pair of shoes may be a good idea on the day if it is still a bit soggy. An extra water bottle is also recommended.
Parents are welcome to view the cross country. Please enter the school via the vehicle gates along Mons Road. If you are able to assist with course marshalling from 9am until 12:30, could you please email the office with your name/ contact phone number/ child’s name / child’s class, and we will be in contact to confirm. Thank you in advance to those who are able to assist.
Students are permitted to wear a house-coloured T-shirt on the day. Please make sure it is appropriately sun safe.
Kangaroo: Red
Koala: Yellow
Wombat: Blue
Wallabies: Green
Parents - please note that students will be running along the footpath at the front of the school along Manning Street entering at the pedestrian access on Mons Road – we ask for your assistance to park safely in this area and not as races are being run.

World’s Greatest Shave
BNPS have registered to take part in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave on Thursday 28th April to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Year 6 pupils will shave, cut or colour their hair and K-5 will participate in Crazy Hair Day.
Every single day, over 50 Australian families will receive a devastating blood cancer diagnosis. The money we raise will provide these families with the special care and support that they need. We will also help brilliant research scientists continue their search for better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer more effectively, and ultimately find a cure.
Use this link to sponsor a Year 6 student and/or donate to the BNPS team for crazy hair day. You can also donate cash on the day at school.
