Newsletter Term 2 Week 2 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."
Principal's message
What a fabulous start to week 2 with an opportunity to celebrate all the support our school has received from our local community over the past few years.
- Thank you to Northern Beaches Council for their support and picking us as one of the schools to trial the Solar my School program.
- Thank you to our parents from our P&C, represented by Anthony Melov, Richard Wokes and Teresa Ravell for persevering over the two years it has taken to realise our schools solar dream and driving the funding on behalf of the school.
- Thank you to the Department of Education SINSW Sustainability funding, the Purryburry Trust and NSW Community Building Partnerships grant body.
Our school is leading the way on the Northern Beaches, showing how we can all make a difference in supporting climate action and caring for our planet. My hope is that we will continue to see many more students and school communities across NSW showing their care and support for climate action through accessing solar for their schools. We can all make a difference each and every day.
Band Intensive Workshop
Thank you to our fabulous P&C music committee for an afternoon of music making, on Saturday. Opportunities like this only happen with the dedication of our parents. Thank you to Caroline Fechner for a wonderful afternoon, it was well organised, focused and fun!
Arts Alive
Nina H 6/5M, Erin R 6H, Summer W 6S and Milly P 6S have been selected to participate in the prestigious Arts Alive workshop. This visual arts workshop will allow students to connect with professional artists and specialist teachers to develop their skills in painting, drawing/mixed media, sculpture, and printmaking.
We look forward to providing more opportunities in the future to ensure every student is supported through talent development opportunities and differentiated teaching and learning practices.
Kind regards
Brooke Keevers
Principal
NAPLAN
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students will participate in tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
The assessment provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance.
NAPLAN assessments will be conducted online in order to provide a better and more precise assessment that is more engaging for students. Year 3 writing will still be conducted on paper.
All students eligible for adjustments have been contacted directly.
Our timeline of assessment will be as follows:
Tuesday 10th May – Writing
Wednesday 11th May – Reading and Conventions of Language
Thursday 12th May – Numeracy
Wednesday 18th May - Make up assessment day
If your child is absent for any of the NAPLAN tests, we will be holding a make-up assessment day on Wednesday the 18th of May.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in NAPLAN.

Playmates Update
It has been wonderful to see our Year 4 students enjoying their leadership role as they plan and run games for our Kindergarten Playmates Program. Our Kindergarten students are loving the opportunity to participate in some structured activities at lunch time, where they can develop their social skills and build new friendships.

World’s Greatest Shave - 2022
Participating in the World’s Greatest Shave is a fun and powerful way to fight back against blood cancer and unite our school community while learning important life lessons about empathy, humanity and community service along the way. Plus – it’s heaps of fun! The funds we have raised will directly support those facing blood cancer today.
We are so proud of the effort our Year 6 students have to raise an astonishing amount of money for the Leukemia Foundation. A huge congratulations to our top fundraisers from year 6; Summer W, Milly P, Max J, Oscar L, Karina O, Amira S who all contributed a significant amount to our fantastic total of $35000.
