Newsletter Term 2 Week 9 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."

NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week will be celebrated at Balgowlah North from the Monday the 27th of June. The dates for celebrating NAIDOC Week, the 3rd to the 10th of July, are in the school holidays. Keep an eye out for local celebrations that you may wish to be a part of during the holidays.
This year’s theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.
On Monday, our Kindergarten students will be performing at our K-6 NAIDOC and Student celebration assembly at 1.45pm under the COLA. Parents who have a child performing or receiving an award are warmly welcome at these assemblies.
P&C meeting
I look forward to seeing you all at our virtual P&C meeting tonight. The meeting is via zoom as Mr Lawler, Principal of Forest High, will be joining us for the evening.
Regional Cross Country
Tyler W, Matthew D, and Chloe W are to be commended on their terrific efforts last Thursday at the regional carnival at Gosford. Our students competed against twelve other districts and the competition was tough!
Congratulations to Josie P (6th) and Isaac R (1st) who will represent their age group for The Sydney North region at the NSWPSSA cross country on Friday 22nd July.
Well done, everyone!
Maths Instructional Leadership Wrap Up of Semester One
In Terms One and Two, I have had the great pleasure of working in our Stage Two classrooms on developing multiplicative strategies. Multiplicative strategies are an integral concept we want to strengthen in our Year 3 and 4 students to allow them to be able to access the mathematics syllabus successfully as they progress through primary school and into highschool.
Working alongside our exceptional Stage 2 Classroom Teachers, the focus of my work has been to provide our Stage 2 students with an opportunity to delve deeply into this aspect of the maths syllabus and develop creative, flexible strategies for thinking about multiplication and division. My goal has been to broaden our students' minds beyond multiplication facts and build their understanding that there are multiple ways in which we can apply the knowledge and skills from their ‘maths toolbox’ to find the answer.
We have also been working collaboratively to ensure there is the opportunity for rich discussion and development of reasoning skills as students learn to verbalise their thinking, describe their process and analyse if they have reached the answer in the most effective way.
Annual School Report
Our annual school report process for 2021 is now complete. Please see the link below to our progress over the past twelve months of our School Improvement Plan.
2R
What a fabulous opportunity I had to watch 2R students connect, create and problem solve this afternoon. Creating a Rube Goldberg machine, including a ramp, lever or a pulley into their design process and then modifying and testing!

Last Thursday, round one of the 2022 Premier’s Debating Challenge saw the two BNPS teams pitted against Harbord PS Maroon and Harbord PS White. BNPS Team Bardoo (negative) were narrowly defeated on the topic ‘schools should make their top students spend one afternoon a week helping a struggling classmate’. BNPS Team Manning (negative) were successful winners in their debate ‘we should only ever give feedback in primary school instead of grades or marks’. As in previous debates, our two teams were very competitive and are looking forward to further challenges ahead.
