Newsletter Term 3 Week 6 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."

Student Voice
‘Schools that focus on giving children and young people a voice, being active learners and developing strong character qualities that will enable them to succeed, thrive and contribute positively throughout life'.
At BNPS we want our students to be able to communicate with their peers and their teachers with confidence and develop the ability to navigate difficulties with friendships, small issues or concerns that they may have from time to time. As parents of our students we value the support that you provide in having pro active conversations with your children to assist them in navigating difficult situations.
Students need opportunities to do this themselves with guidance from their teachers and parents. Our URStrong program provides many resources and strategies that as parents you are able to access to support you navigate this space with your children.
Empowering kids with friendship skills in schools! (urstrong.com)
If you feel your child needs support with this please ensure that the class teacher is the first point of contact. I have attached an article that may assist parents with tips as to how to navigate these conversations with the classroom teacher or member of the school leadership team.
Celebrating Excellence
Debating Finals
Congratulations to our wonderful debating team who are competing on Friday against Balgowlah Heights in the Premier’s Debating Challenge Regional final for North Sydney. We wish Talia W, Ella M, Darcy Y and Naomi G every success.
Dance Sport
On Monday 29th August, Year 5 students will be heading to Homebush to perform in the Metro North DanceSport Confidence Gala. They have been working incredibly hard for the past two terms to learn their partner dances. The performers are excited to put their respectful relationship skills, courage and resilience into action as they participate in a dance showcase and optional competition at this joyful community event. Good luck to all the dancers!
Drama Ensemble
Well done to our Drama Ensemble on selection for State representation at the Seymour Centre early next term.

Wellbeing week
The playground became a sea of colour this morning as students burst through the gates dressed in all colours of the rainbow. We are celebrating ‘Rainbow Day’ today with a gold coin donation for the mental health charity RUOKAY?. ‘Wellbeing Week’ at BNPS continues this week with opportunities for students and teachers alike to press pause and reconnect with themselves and the things that really matter. Staff led by example; enjoying a mindful Qigong session and dancing it out with a Zumba class! Have a lovely rest of the week; practising gratitude, catching each other being kind and doing more of what makes your soul smile!

PSSA Netball Grand Finals
Last Friday, we held our breaths at the sight of rain until the sun shone through the clouds ready for the Grand Final round of PSSA winter sport. The Balgowlah North girl’s Junior A netball team had finished the preliminary rounds second on the ladder behind North Curl Curl, who we were facing in the final match. After a strong first half, we entered the second half, goal for goal. With minutes to go, the score was 14-14 until Balgowlah North came into possession and scored the winning goal! The girls played with great heart and determination to finish the day as winners. Brilliant effort girls!
Next up was the Junior B game. The girls played against the mighty Narraweena B’s. A challenging game from start to finish, where our girls fought hard to defend and stick on their players. As the final hooter sounded the score was 15-0, which saw our team take out second place in the Junior B division. Incredible effort Junior B’s!
We are all so proud of you!

BNPS P&C Band news
BNPS Vivid School Disco
Last week’s P&C Vivid School Disco saw most of our school community turn out for some fluro fun, plenty of dancing and making noise with all their friends. The proceeds raised will provide much needed funding for our fabulous school band program who are still rebuilding after Covid. Both Junior and Senior partygoers made a huge effort with their favourite fluro and glow in the dark gear and showed some serious dancing skills to their favourite tunes. The organisers would like to say thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time, including to man the Glow in the Dark tattoos and face paint station, and to DJ Jayson from The Party Starters, who provided music for the evening. We
would also like to congratulate the children on their broad taste in music. The song requests ranged from Rick Astley to Harry Styles and covered old, new and everything in-between. We’re thrilled to have this event back on our school calendar!
