Newsletter Term 4 Week 5 2022
"We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians on whose land our school rests. Their footsteps and whispers blow in the wind, drift on the clouds, remain deep in the sandstone and float on the waterways of this place. Their memories and Dreaming stories will continue to connect us to the land and guide future generations of our school community. Country is alive if you take the time to look, listen and learn."

Connections
Tomorrow 5 of our teachers will be collaborating with teachers at Beacon Hill Public school as they share the opportunity to engage in Learning Walks and Talks, visit and chat with students about their learning. Questions asked assist students with reflecting on their learning.
- What are you learning?
- How are you doing?
- How do you know?
- How can you improve?
- Where do you go for help?
Collaborating across our network of schools provides opportunities for teachers to share professional dialogue, build relationships of trust and work through feedback and inquiry.
Challenge
Check In Assessments
Students in years 3 -6 have participated in Check In assessments over the first weeks of term 4. These assessments provide our school with useful data about how our students are progressing in literacy and numeracy. We use this data, in correlation with our internal assessment data, to evaluate current teaching programs and implement effective strategies to support further growth and development.
The trend we are seeing across literacy in our Check In data is that our results are strengthening when compared to those of our Statistically Similar School Group ( SSSG).
Our current Year 4 students have exceeded the average results of our SSSG by 3.5% and our current Year 5 cohort has demonstrated 4.2% growth in relation to our SSSG. Year 3 and 6 data is also showing pleasing results, becoming stronger and more closely aligned to the results of our SSSG network. We attribute these results to innovations in programming that have been implemented in our 3-6 classrooms over the past 12 months.
While our numeracy results are slightly under those of our SSSG, they are still well above the state average and we are seeing greater consistency in the results we are achieving. We look forward to improving pedagogy that will endeavour to strengthen these results in 2023.

Planning for 2023
The school leadership team has commenced planning for 2023. At this point in time we will have 16 or 17 classes for 2023. As we are aware this may change depending on our Kindergarten enrolments, students leaving the school and with the movement of families out of our catchment area we find this affects our enrolments as well. We are extremely fortunate at BNPS to have highly skilled, professional and passionate teachers. Creating classes is an extremely rigorous process that teachers take very seriously. Our aim is to provide equity for all students based on their academic, social and emotional needs. We will be creating composite (multi stage) classes in 2023. These classes, as all our classes, will be created carefully to create best fit for all our students at BNPS.
If your child has any social, academic or emotional needs that we are unaware of which may have an impact on their class placement for 2023 please email the school - attention Brooke Keevers. This information must be submitted by Friday 4th November. Requests for specific teachers will not be taken into consideration.
